Status of the Cleanup
Remediation Priorities and Approach
The remediation strategy for Site 300 employs a
prioritized approach with an emphasis on risk reduction.
LLNL, together with the regulatory agencies and neighboring
community, established the following priorities for
environmental restoration at Site 300:
- Prevent contamination of on- and offsite water-supply
wells and associated risk to human health and loss of
beneficial uses of ground water.
- Prevent exposure of onsite workers to contaminants and
reduce the current unacceptable risk.
- Control and prevent further offsite plume migration.
- Reduce contaminant concentrations and mass in the
subsurface to prevent further impacts to water-supply
aquifers and additional plume migration.
- Control contaminant sources.
